13, 14, and 15 amendments
These three amendments are known as the Reconstruction Amendments, since they all occurred during the Reconstruction period, and they all had something to do with slavery or African American rights. These amendments had many effects on the U.S. For example, Hiram Rhoades Revels (from Mississippi) became the first African American to sit on the U.S. Congress. However, even with these amendments in action, there were still high levels of discrimination and racism. The enactment of black codes is one example of this.

what was the 13th amendment?The 13th Amendment was passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified on December 6, 1865. The amendment abolished slavery in the United States. In fact, the 13th Amendment is the first direct mention of slavery in the Constitution.
what was the 14th amendment?This amendment was ratified on July 9, 1868. It granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States. So, all former slaves were considered U.S. citizens.
